$1.80 Method….what is that? Well, it is a formula that was created by Gary Vaynerchuk. The formula follows as so: “2 cents” on 9 posts for 10 Hashtags… $0.02 x 9 x 10 = $1.80. The goal is to be able to do this every day. This is a great method to use to create organic account growth in a structured way. The $1.80 Method is so great because you start to grow your following, increase your reach and increase your interaction organically. Another added benefit is you also get to authentically connect with the people in your community and put purpose behind your likes and comments.
Hashtags
Let’s go ahead and break this down further, starting with the hashtags. The 10 hashtags that you pick should be relevant to your business, and your niche. This allows you to target the accounts that you want to interact with. Targeting these accounts will also help the algorithm narrow down your target audience members.
While looking at what hashtags to work with, it is important to have a balance of small, medium, and large amounts of posts under those hashtags. From our experience, it is nice to have a variety of different hashtags and different variations. We also found it beneficial to have more than 10 hashtags, we will explain why in just a bit!
Comments… The Heart of the $1.80 Method
Once you have selected your hashtags, you are going to want to leave your “2 cents” or comment on the top 9 posts under each hashtag. The reason for this is because these are the accounts that have the most interactions under this specific hashtag. Not only does it allow you to interact with “top” accounts in that niche, but it also allows you to be seen from other accounts that share the same interests.
When interacting with these posts, you want to leave a genuine response, something more than an emoji. What we love most about this method is that you really get to speak to people, and learn about the people that are in your community. You get to help create and shape the dialogue that is happening. When other people see this, they will come to check out your account and see what’s up. (This is where having your own awesome content comes in handy!)
Top 9
Remember how I mentioned that having more than 10 hashtags is beneficial? Well, that is because the level of engagement under each hashtag can determine how often those top 9 posts change. The $1.80 strategy is meant to be done every day, however, that can be difficult if only some, or none of the top 9 posts have changed. Having a long list of hashtags that you can rotate through gives you the flexibility to not only engage with more accounts but do so more frequently.
There are so many different ways to have a structured approach to organically growing your account, and we found that the $1.80 method is just one of those ways. Remember that when you implement new strategies for your accounts, it may take time to see results. Stick with it, and you will see growth!
